About this book

You'd be hard-pressed to find a more comprehensive, engrossing and just plain fun-to-read guidebook than the Eyewitness Travel Guide: Ireland. Spilling over with all sorts of useful information for the traveler, you'll find three-dimensional drawings, floor plans, detailed neighborhood maps with a street-finder index, and even historical timelines. Broken into several sections (including "Introducing Ireland," "Region by Region," "Traveler's Needs," and "Survival Guide"), the guide paints a complete picture of the country. Readers will especially love the hundreds of color photos of everything from the Cliffs of Moher in County Clare to the Connemara landscape of County Galway to out-of-the-way pubs and street-by-street illustrated city walks (Dublin's Southeast walk takes in famed landmarks such as Trinity College, St. Stephen's Green and the Shelbourne Hotel). You'll also find listings for Aran sweaters, Waterford crystal, and Celtic recordings. --Jill Fergus

Journey of the Mind

DK Eyewitness Travel Guides are of such high quality that through them I venture thousands of miles without ever leaving home. This guide to Ireland, updated in 2003, was no exception.

Inside the cover of this, slightly larger than pocket size journal, are snippets of the island nation's history and most notable sons. Region by region you can explore the most beautiful gardens, castles and abbeys, as well as the homes and shrines of famous Irish.

Each page is of superior glossy quality. This makes for high quality pictures. Abbeys and Castles are reviewed with super exploded views of prominent structures and grounds. There is even a brief overview of Guinness and its history. The dark ale of the Isles commands much attention in the Republic's world famous pubs of which you'll become familiar in this book.

Take the journey to Ireland in person or with me through the pages of DK's fine travel guide.

Excellent Ireland travel guide

I purchased the Ireland Eyewitness Travel Guide to prepare myself for a vacation I'll be taking. It was wonderful! Organized well, color coded, beautiful pictures! I couldn't ask for a better book.

Heavy Reading

Yes, this book is heavy - weight wise - but well worth the money. The photographs are very well done, and the mapage is not too shabby. If this is your first trip to Ireland this book will serve you well to prepare for your trip. But, don't expect to carry it with you everywhere you go unless you've had your full Irish breakfast with pork'n'beans.
