Very good, targeted recommendations

My group of friends, who had all travelled Greece in our backpacking days, benefited greatly from this book. As our trip in July 2002 progressed, we relied more and more heavily on the book. The recommendations from sites to food to hotels proved to be excellent every time. I particularly liked that the lodging and restaurant recommendations had inexpensive through expensive listings, which we used as our budget-mindedness changed during the trip. For anyone beyond backpacking and Lonely Planet, this book is a must.

My companion for the past 30 years!

I have numerous copies of 'Frommer's Greece' for the past 30 years, and I consider it the bible of Greek travel. There are other good guides, and they have their particular niches, but Frommer's stands out for clear writing, logical indexing, and especially for running the gamut from budget tourism to the more affluent. His starred system with comments for value or attractiveness to family is understandable with good common sense. In the end, if I have to choose one guidebook for Greece, its Frommer's. Studying it helps me make the decisions I personally want to make. It will save you many times the price of the book and make your stay much more enjoyable.

Truly Exceptional guide to Greece

This book was a wonderful start to planning our trip to Greece. It is thorough and begins with a section on "What's New" to update with changes to traveling to this country...followed by quick facts with the pages marked in RED.

This Guide's chapters on all the places to see begins with a nice description of the area you will travel in, followed by an orientation of the area. The authors then proceed to describe things to see and places to stay along with dining choices. They list them from most expensive to least.

What I enjoyed the most with this guide is the "Quick Tips" they scatter throughout about things to watch for, safety, fun, taxi's, smoking, eating, drinking, shopping, etc. etc. Maps are also laid out in each section you would travel to, to help get a feel for the location.

This guide also has ferry, airline, airport, bus, metro and taxi information in great detail. Websites are also offered for you to do your own research on everything from hotels to ferry schedules. It will give you the best advice on what to avoid and what is not to be missed.

All in all while reading this guide, I literally felt as though I was taken on a guided tour of Greece by a friend who had already traveled there. The writing style is entertaining, yet informative. I felt just about every question I had about Greece is answered in this guide. Can't wait to go in October, especially since I learned from this guide how Greece does things in charging for Hotels. They are all the same, every price quoted includes breakfast, some better than others, and taxes and all charges. No hidden surprises at checkout. This guide also offers star ratings from most preferred to least.

The only thing to watch for is the Guide to the Greek Islands by Frommer's...save your money and just buy this guide, the section on the Greek Islands in the Greece guide is written word for word as the "The Greek Islands" guidebook.
