I've used this book on my last three visits to Paris. It's invaluable in finding the location of where you want to go. Then you find the closest Metro stop. You look at the Metro map and jot down your route. For example, I went through this process to locate and visit the Carnavalet museum which is kind of off the beaten path.
When you arrive, the detail maps are also wonderful in helping you find your bearings. A tour bus dropped me in an unfamiliar area. I went to my trusty map and found the closest walking route to my hotel.
It's a wonderful size and very easy to carry. It's set up well so you can quickly find the site you are seeking. 100 thumbs up.
I echo other rave reviews for this map, and add the following:
The 64-page mapguide has 20 crammed pages containing general overviews of the city and its attractions, and info. and maps on the peripheral Bois de Boulogne, Bois de Vincennes, and Versailles. (It was my fourth time to Paris, and I still found material in these pages that was new to me.) The map pages are colorful and easy to read. It has an EXCELLENT Street index, making it quick and easy to use on a streetcorner. Especially helpful was the bus route information. And it came through a 5-day visit looking no worse for wear. In other words, I didn't throw it away before I left!
This is my favorite map of Paris. I have used it now on at least 4 trips to Paris. It is light and portable enough to carry around all day walking, and it is like the Thomas Guide equivalent of Paris in that you can look up a street in the index and locate it precisely on the map. It comes in handy when you have an address (ie of a restaurant or store that you want to visit)and have no idea where it is. There is also a subway map and a map of all the arrondisemonts. This has got to be the best map ever!! I wish every city had a map like this.
