The completely revised and updated 2001 Edition of the AAA France TravelBook is an easily portable and comprehensive guidebook to France especially designed for the tourist or business traveler. Profusely illustrated with color photography and maps, all regions of France are included from the famed city of Paris to the countrysides and villages of Normandy, Brittany; the Loire Valley, the Alps, the Rhone, Burgundy, Strasbourg, Champagne, and more. All aspects of travel resources, accommodations, dining, things to see and do are covered in a succinct and "user friendly" layout. If you are planning a trip to France, make the AAA France TravelBook: 2001 Edition your constant traveling companion, planning guide and reference!
I have just discovered that this book is written by the columnist Laurence Phillips, and there are many glimpses of the fireside chat friendly style enjoyed by those of us Europeans who read his travel anecdotes in The Canada Post and swear by his food and travel books, such as his Eurostar guide Paris+Lille+Brussels. Obviously, the AAA Travelbook being a guide to most of France, there are fewer of his trademark gossipy rambles off-topic, but there is still plenty of local colour. His diversions into the secret hideaways of George Sand and Chopin are delightful, as are his stories of music and wine festivals around the country. A useful companion piece to his other books for fans, and, with its walks and drives, a reliable guidebook for serious travellers aiming to see the best of France this year.
